However, his Kentucky death certificate lists his parents as George Smith and Nancy Casey. Thomas was not present in the George and Arminda households for the 1910 or 1920 US Census. In the 1910 US Census, Thomas is listed in the Richard Casey household as a grandson. Also listed is his mother, Nancy, who was Richard's daughter and 28 years old. Richard was a neighbor of George and Arminda.
