According to the Norman Inventory, Harrison Rife, son of John David "JD" and Louisa Jane Jude Rife, was struck by a train in Matewan, WV, while intoxicated. Ransom R. and William Jefferson Hatfield took him to the office of "ol' Doc Goins" in Matewan. With the use of additional spirits as an anesthetic, they held him down while the doctor sawed off his injured leg just above the knee. The amputated leg is buried in this plot. Harrison is buried in TN.
